For those of you who are wondering why the “like” button isn’t working on your website any more, it’s not you. Facebook developers are aware this is priority 1 in their bug tracking system. We’ve been putting the like button on a number of sites. And all of them are broken! This is not the same as placing a share link, which is what most people do– it’s such that people who click “like” from your website can become fans of your business without having to do so within Facebook. I predict this will either become enormous or be hit with massive privacy issues– or maybe both!
We’ve separately talked about the implications of placing the like button everywhere, plus changing “become a fan” to just liking. Pretty soon couples say that they’re in LIKE with each other.
The search engines use this information to match businesses with people in the local community who are searching the internet for the products and services offered by local businesses.
I like the like button! It’s much less obtrusive than other sharing methods. I’m glad they’ve fixed it.
